Mecheln-Auschwitz. 1942-1944 is een vierdelige, drietalige reeks (Nederlands, Frans, Engels) over de vervolging en deportatie van Joden en zigeuners via het SS-Sammellager in de Kazerne Dossin in Mechelen naar Auschwitz. Van 1942 tot 1944 was de kazerne Dossin een verzamelkamp voor Joden en zigeuners uit België en Noord-Frankrijk voor een reis zonder terugkeer naar Auschwitz.

Het eerste deel van de reeks is een historische synthese van de raciale en antisemitische vervolgingen in België en Noord-Frankrijk. Het brengt het ingewikkelde en bewogen verhaal van de actie, reactie en interactie tussen bezetter, bezetten en vervolgden geconfronteerd met de Endlösung. De geschiedenis van elk transport wordt eveneens verhaald.

Delen twee en drie tonen, wagon per wagon en transport na transport, 18 522 portretten van de 25 259 gedeporteerden. Hierdoor krijgt de volkerenmoord een gezicht. Korte biografische schetsen illustreren het lot van de gedeporteerden.

Deel vier is de herziene en verbeterde alfabetische namenlijst van de slachtoffers, verrijkt met enkele biografische aantekeningen over hun lot.

 

Mecheln-Auschwitz. 1942-1944 est une série trilingue (néerlandais, français, anglais) en quatre volumes portant sur la persécution et la déportation des Juifs et des Tsiganes du SS-Sammellager, situé dans la Caserne Dossin à Malines, vers Auschwitz. De 1942 à 1944, la caserne Dossin a servi de camp de rassemblement des Juifs et des Tsiganes de Belgique et du Nord de la France en vue d’une déportation sans retour.

Le premier volume de cette série, synthèse historique des persécutions racistes et antisémites en Belgique et dans le Nord de la France, présente une histoire complexe et mouvementée des actions, réactions et interactions entre l’occupant, l’occupé et les persécutés confrontés à la solution finale. L’historique de chaque transport y est également relaté.

Les deux tomes suivants dévoilent, transport après transport et wagon par wagon, les portraits de 18 522 des 25 259 déportés, rendant un visage aux victimes du génocide. De courtes biographies retracent le sort de quelques déportés.

Le quatrième volume consiste en une liste alphabétique, revue et corrigée, des noms des déportés, enrichie par de notes relatives à leur destinée.

 

Mecheln-Auschwitz. 1942-1944 is a trilingual series (Dutch, French and English) of four books dealing with the persecution and deportation of Jews and gypsies from the SSSammellager in the Dossin Barracks in Mechelen to Auschwitz. From 1942 until 1944 the Dossin Barracks were used as a transit camp for Jews and gypsies from Belgium and the North of France, assembled here to set out on their journey of no return to Auschwitz.

The first part of the series presents the reader with a historical overview of the racist and anti-Semitic persecutions in Belgium and the North of France. It focuses on the complex and poignant story of the action, reaction and interaction between occupier, occupied and persecuted, confronted with the final solution. It also relates the history of each individual transport.

Parts two and three show us the portraits of 18,522 out of the 25,259 deportees, wagon by wagon and transport by transport. These pictures literally give the genocide a face. The fate of the deportees is further illustrated by short biographical testimonials.

Part four contains the revised and corrected alphabetical list of names of the victims, together with biographical information about their personal fate.
