The Collins edition of The Complete Works of William Shakespeare, edited by the late Professor Peter Alexander, has long been established as one of the world's favourite single-volume editions of Shakespeare's works and was chosen by the BBC as the basis for its major televised cycle of the plays. Completely reset in 1994 and given a modern, reader-friendly design, the new edition also includes two specially written articles on Shakespeare's life and theatre by two great critics: an illuminating biography of Shakespeare by Germaine Greer, and a wide-ranging introduction to Shakespeare's theatre by the late Anthony Burgess. Also included is a glossary of around 2500 entries explaining the meaning of obsolete and difficult words and phrases, with line references to each occurrence. As with the previous edition of the Alexander text, the line numbering to the standard concordances.
